Ah can I stay here? from the dangers and ruff n' tumble of the sclobby?
Its been a hard day of confusing e-mails and political debates. I'm really sorry for wasting your space on your blog Angel but I have SO many blogs now to be sorting out. And then my own as well

Well...I'm sad to hear that PopDog, but if it isn't your cup of tea, you aren't obliged to be here. Thanks for your honesty.

I'm still not in the greatest mood today, but I have a job interview coming up. If I get the job, maybe I'll be excited again. I am planning to carry on describing my ideas. Don't worry...keep popping in. Feel free to respond to each other's thought on VR and whatever.
Sorry for not saying anything in a while but I dont really have a clue what to say
I think im just gonna leave this blog

V.R.

Yes the whole gender problems would be kind a wierd. I suppose that, being virtual and everything, it does matter what gender fellow players take on. Still....I don't know...perhaps it's not my cup of tea. While we are playing, we will "feel" different...I think...yes! When we stop playing...the feeling will last a little bit, hence warping our perception. Followed by painful disillusionment.

Motion sickness is definately a problem VR technology would need to overcome in general.

I should probably talk more about my game and story but I don't feel like it right now. Stay tuned though.

Animals with different life expectancies? Get outta here!

Maybe if there was a game with the ability to control Sonic, the playing field could be 'slowed down' to accomodate the reactions (like that bit in the Matrix, where Neo dodges the bullets or the bullet time feature in Max Payne), but with other players, maybe the hardware would have to speed up our own brains, thus altering our standard brainwaves, KILLING US from aneurysms. So maybe playing as Sonic himself would be illegal, but not as the others.

Here's a sick(ish) thought: if this software allowed us to become others in the games themselves, would we 'feel' different?, i.e. a majority of games players aren't uber-fit, but games characters would have to be, so would we have to 'feel' stronger? On the 'sick' part, what if we played as different gender characters? Would we notice the opposite sex's gender parts of the character we play? And what if that sexy character was really our gender? Aiiee.

MMMmm

I WOULD love to play as sonic, and with the incredible (and possibly lethal) amount of coffee I rekon I could take it. I think you have to shake off this "idea" that sonic moves at the speed of sound. When you play the games he moves fast yeah but not so fast that you can't register it. The only problems I can see are these: 1 Motion sickness 2 Spin dash and super sonic (both the character and the super sonic spin attack)

Virtual Reality

Being Sonic would be an incredible experience; I'd probably miss all of it. Maybe Knuckles would be easier to handle. Could a human have such quick reflexes for the kind of experience you are suggesting? We'd have to have a brain chip in our heads to compliment our own mental processing speed?!
This stuff is a little out of my league of comprehension.

1 st or 3 rd ?

In my ultimate game, I was thinking along the lines of a 3rd person shooter with the option to toggle in first person. But to get the "big picture", I think 3 rd person is best. I've always enjoyed 3rd person better myself, but I can see why some like 1st person better.

Greetings Cam

Great you could join in!

I know that gameplay needs to be figured out first...that's why I made this blog...to get it figured out due to my lack of technical grasp.

Playfields of my ultimate game include: Sword-fighting/or other fighting levels among a group of soldiers; one-on-one fighting(similar to Shenmue, but smoother and faster); slower-pace adventure levels where you have to use problem-solving to solve puzzle related to the story; survival horror styled fighting against mutated creatures who jump at you without warning within an adventure mode; one flying level in a flying contraption; slower-pace adventure level involving hunting for an item ( but not so annoying as Rouge's levels on SA2); a strategy level where soldiers have to be effectively deployed in a battle; and there's more that could be included like racing with horses and so forth. The last part though will be a big 3D battle, (like Shenmue but more complex and more characters) where, depending on the character one picks, can be sword-fighting, archery, martial arts-style, laser weapons, and so on.

you're doing absolutely fine Cam!

The mystery "brain-overloader" LM again

For the first time in a long time I saw a VR set today. God is it crappy.

I mean, now adays we're used to uber-fast PCs and stuff, so why can't they upgrade these VR systems? They would be great fun at 70fps speeds and amazing graphics and a non-nausteating ability.

But on the subject of my "advanced VR" (Better than Life, see below), could you imagine 'being' Sonic?! The blistering speeds, the amazing scenery, and the fact that your reactions would have to be faster than a speeding bullet to get the most out of it?! Maybe you could 'be' Knuckles instead, or anyone else in the Sonic universe.

I think 3rd person can work quite well even if shooting is involved such as RE:CV or Tomb Radier
You could allow certain weapons to have a 1st person view mode such as in RE:CV

The Ultimate Game

I think we'll stick with traditional gaming in this one. It's almost one in the morning so please come again later for more details on my game. Also, I've invited Cam from SWW. I hope he decides to come. Does anyone object?
Good night!

Better Than Life

What I think you are reffering to is a Red Dwarf Story based on "the ultimate game" this gave the player whatever they wanted (sub concious) but since there was no real movement the players suffered muscle wastage and mal nutrition (so effectivly they died)
In Dirty Pair Flash these people are called "Neural Junkies"
Well....VR would definately give players the"ultimate experience". It wasn't what I had in mind, but I'll give it further consideration. We have to get the actually game part nailed down first.

Don't you think, LiquidMyth, that if a complex VR game had a real serious story to it, that it may affect players way to0 deeply to be properly handled. Players may come to believe that they really are the character they are playing.
Such use of VR could be a Pandora's Box.

Oh! and Thank you for jumping on with us Liquid! Come again!

Ultimate Game gets own blog thing

Hum ha oh yes! Thank god for this, cause I would probably have never shut up on the Syphid corp thing.

I've been learning 3d animation, but to no avail, to what my ultimate game could look like. My PC is buggered, so I'll wait until I can afford a new one (can't upgrade, all 'pieces' are glued in).

As I suggested, why not a VR game, but with a different 'socket', such as back of head/spinal cord/other (this would take a few years research), and where the graphics are not determined or limited to what the 3D abilities of the machine are, but determined by messages sent to your brain? Keeeewl.

Sorry...finally got around to my blog...thanks for jumping on.

First you want the Basics

I want my game to be a mix of all kinds. But not quite like SA. I'm aiming for an experience and what makes sense according to the story, more like Shemue but I'm thinking much more complex.

I want to put in parts in the game that will call for strategy, whereas other parts will call for adventure & problem-solving and yet others RPG. I have a flying aircraft part. There will be tons of combat fighting but in 3D like Shemue. But mine's will be more quick and responsive. There will be some survival horror action parts.
The different parts of the "ultimate game" are strung together by the story which will be represented in various movie clips. Some clips will be longer, others shorter.
Each character has their own thing.

I want the player to be able to pick who they want to play. But I haven't nailed this idea down yet. I'm thinking of grouping the characters together in such a way that a player will get a variety of gaming styles in one package, but it has to go with the story. Some characters don't meet each other until half way through the story. So...I don't know...let's just say for now...that the player can pick one character and go from beginning to end from that characters point-of-view. Each character has a totally different point-of-view. Some start the game from their own spot on the planet and will eventually meet the others, hopefully as a friend.

The Story

I don't want to get too involved in the story if there is no way in hell such a game can we be created in the first place. The story, though, is what started the hamster in my brain. Yes the big thing is "originality". Will my story be considered original? I'm not sure, but I do plan to present it in an appealing way. I was heavily inspired by Lord of the Rings (the novel). I'm not going to get into the story all in one shot, but I'll give some crumbs.

People question their existence. Evoluion, Creation, Aliens,. And yet what is truth? My story is a fantasy with doses of science fiction, (and action, war, romance, mystery,...) In this fantasy, there is in the centre a planet, a world ( I can't grasp the name yet). The majority of the people on this world are very similiar to us, except their society we would dub as "medieval". They have their warriors on horses and they use lances and swords, etc. They have kingdoms ruled by kings. So on and so forth.

This world is centre of the universe. In its core lies a big, machine made out of a luminencient, white substance. The energy the machine produces is so strong that it produces, not only the energy of this world, but of the entire universe.

But one day the light begins to dim. Natural disasters break out everywhere...tornados, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions. Even in nature, some things will mutate into abominations. Big spiders of various sizes, scorpions, so on and so forth. It is the end.

Like us, the inhabitants of this world (which includes species other than human) have different views. But all want the truth about their world.

This timbit doesn't even scratch the surface. This is just the background info. I'll let you guys absorb this before I carry on with the story.

The Characters

What I think will make my story/game really good is the characters. They always remain solid in my head while I do mess with the story sometimes. There will be more than one character, none of which I guarantee you are annoying. As a matter of fact, my story has such a serious tone with serious characters, that I may need to create someone for comic relief, but we'll see.
The bad guy is evil.
I'll provide more info on the characters at a future time.

Will my game be multi-player?

I think it'll do better as a single player overall as it will already be very complex. But...maybe when certain parts in the story have been completed, the option to re-play specific mini-games in multi-player for fun will be made available. This may work for the RPG parts of the game, like the sword-fighting parts.

Other business

Thanks for the encouragement Dark and PopDog. But don't hestitate to be truthful. If you think something sucks, let me know right away. Of course, you have to state why and give reasons. I'm wondering if my idea should be made into a movie script. Maybe putting into a game is too much.

I feel bad that solid is doing all the work. But I have no visual art skills (i.e. I can't draw! & I don't have any good programs even if I had talent!) If I did, I would definately contribute. The best I can do for solid and you is critique the work you do have and give suggestions. Like a consultant, but I ain't much of a doer.

I wanna fly high

Sorry, a very catchy (if not cheesy) tune. Anyway how is this going so far Angel?
A lot of ideas so far, but dont get overwhelmed and dont give up on this idea.

BTW Has anybody actually designed any logos for the Syphid Corporation? I think Solid is the only one doing anything.

Anyway I have to fly higher

Story

Ok so whats the story going to be like? Is it going to be like SA2 and have multiple sides to it?
Are you very good at writing stories Angel? I know at least one member who writes stories as a hobby (not me though) maybe they can help (but they are in the SC Lobby)

I wouldn't worry about technical restrictions at present, just concentrate on making the game ok?

Dont get too worked up

Saturday, July 21, 2001

Oh and about the multi player thing. I really didnt like it in SA2 cos they make you play as all the characters.
It was much better in SA where you could just play as your fav (kind of , I mean youd have to find them first as Sonic , unless of course Sonic was your fav )

I thought Angel wanted to focus on story first ?

Anyhoo I think the story needs to be original , nothing stupid like avenging fathers death or anything.
Also setting is important.
And of course characters. Noone is going to want to play if the main character is an annoying twat :P
First You Want the Basics

What type of game do you want it to be? RPG, Platform maybe a mix of all the types.
Then you want to thinkof all the cool things you want to put in it.

Just Some Ideas

The Ultimate Game Begins

So far there hasn't been too much response yet....but many feel that trying to create the ultimate is fulile and impossible. I should lower my standards and not try to aim for too much. Of course, the ultimate game can not be perfect. I need to smooth out the story first. Still, I'd like to know what format it is going to be presented in: game, novel, movie. Yes...a movie. Maybe my story should be the ultimate movie. It's the experience I'm aiming for though and video games are the most interactive way to experience a story. In my opinion.

Welcome to my blog!

In the near future this will become the cesspool of (hopefully) great ideas for the ultimate game.
As I get use to Blogger, I beg all to bare with me for the first week.
Thanks! and See ya!
